  • Gwyneth Paltrow for Juice Beauty

I love it when I find a great non-toxic beauty product. Sadly, I generally have to kiss a few frogs in dull lip gloss before I find the winners. The one issue that always comes up with non-toxic makeup is that it isn’t very camera friendly. As someone who wants to be able to do a video at a moments notice, I’ve been searching for camera worthy makeup that I can wear day-to-day and still feel good about. Thankfully Gwyneth Paltrow was a bit fed-up with the non-toxic offerings as well and decided to collaborate with Juice Beauty to make a line that is “red carpet worthy”. The second I heard about it I opened my computer and immediately placed an order. I started simple with a mascara and lip gloss (a bright red named after Cameron Diaz!). Though I wanted to jump in and snag a foundation, I’ve had my heart broken too many times by the non-toxic variety I figured it was best to work up to it:)

The verdict: Ahhmazing. The mascara lengthens and separates beautifully with no clumping. The lip gloss glides on perfectly and looks so fierce. Especially for a red, the fact that I could glide it on with minimal fixing is pretty wonderful. I have to say I’m a little obsessed.

Will I order more: Absolutely! Now that I know what these 2 can do I’m going to jump in and try the foundation. Keep you guys posted.

Is it worth the price: 100%. It’s very much in line with what the non-toxic brands are going for as well as the good quality makeup we’ve all been using for years. Seeing as you get both in one I’d say this is one of the rare times I understand the price point.

  • Say whaaaattt?

This post's nature may be a bit taboo but I just had to tell you about it. If you've heard of this product you may have found yourself wondering why on earth anyone would buy such a contraption and if you haven't heard of it you'll probably be a bit confused, but make no mistake The Squatty Potty is one of the best purchases you'll make this year. It's a 7in high foot stool that you put your feet up on while doing your morning (or whenever) um...constitution. The logic is by putting your body in the squatting position, similar to how humans went to the bathroom pre-toilet, it puts your body in the correct alignment to allow things to "release" smoothly and effortlessly. If you're one of those people who may not be very regular or who has any issues when it comes to this department it's a total lifesaver! Sure you can just get a box and use that but for $28 why not get the real deal. You'll thank me later. xo

  • Best Organic Good-For-You Foundation

Finding the perfect foundation can be tough but finding a great all-natural foundation is damn near impossible. Most are too runny, too orangey or too sheer, leaving you running back to your Laura Mercier and Makeup Forever. So I'm extremely happy to report that I've finally found it! An organic good-for-you foundation with great coverage, no weird tones and not at all cakey.

To apply, use the W3ll People Narcissist Foundation Stick to draw a few lines from your nose out to the edge of your face and blend in with your finger tips. I like to do two coats. The first round is very sheer but the second is perfect coverage and you can do it very quickly. The one thing I noticed about this product is it will look one way when you first put it on and then about 10 min later when you happen to glance in a mirror you'll see the coverage looks even better and your skin looks flawless. My favorite party? It's also camera friendly so go ahead and take as many selfies as you want! #naturalbeauty xo

  • Get Your Face Really Really Clean

It's now not enough to just wash your face, you actually have to use devices to get it really clean (or so everyone says). After much consideration of a clarisonic brush and much research I decided to go with this new funky device called the Foreo. I've been using it for a few months now and I must say, it really does get your face clean. Far cleaner than what your fingertips can do. Their Luna device also has an anti-aging mode to place on wrinkle prone areas of your face where it sends low vibrational pulses. Not sure if this works but it feels effective as I'm doing it. The whole process takes only about a minute and once you get the hang of it becomes a fun part of your face cleansing routine. Think of it as a nightly massage for your face, The charge lasts a long time but it comes with a little case and power cord to take with you when traveling.

  • The Best Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo can be a lifesaver. If you're running out the door and don't quite have time to wash your hair-dry shampoo to the rescue! We've all now been told a million times by our hairdressers never to wash our hair every day and there it is -- dry shampoo to the rescue!

However, when you have pin straight hair that tends to get incredibly greasy if you don't wash it every day, you look at dry shampoo and laugh. Most have only kept my hair fresh for about half a day and then by dinner I'm running my hands through greasy locks. I've written about it before but one of the best I've found is dry bar's detox - this one can take me to 2-3 days on the condition that my hair has been blown dry day 1 to get rid of excess moisture and give it volume.
I had tried products from Living Proof before and really loved them so when I heard about their Perfect Hair Day dry shampoo I had to give it a go! With PHD I can somehow get an extra day in when I don't blow dry (which I unheard of!). This stuff zaps grease, gives your hair a little life and some nice texture. It has a nice lemony sent and doesn't leave any of that white residue that products like klorane do. I'll still wash my hair probably more than I should but at least now my hair dresser can be a bit more proud of me some days:)
  • Be Plane Ready

Flying can be fun. Jetting off from one place to the next has a lot of excitement to it and though it's always fun to explore new restaurants and food wherever you're going, the one thing you don't want to explore is airline food. Things brought up into the skies tend to have a bit more sodium (and airplanes already make your body swell) and even though more and more airlines are carrying healthier snacks, sometimes they run out or if you're someone with dietary restrictions they won't fit all your needs. I'll generally make a sandwich the night before to take on the plane or if I make some thing for dinner the night before and it's travel friendly I'll pack that up. But let's face it, snacks are where it's at, so I'm always sure to have many on hand. Even if I don't eat them all on the plane they always come in handy whenever I reach my destination. Exploring makes a girl hungry!! Here are some of my favorite things to bring along:

A few more in flight tips:
    1. MOISTURIZE. Slather it on before you get on and keep a travel size bottle in your carry on to reapply at least once during your flight and again when you land. Your skin gets incredibly dehydrated while flying.
    2. Stay hydrated. Back to that dehydration... Drink plenty of water and try to refrain from the inflight coffee and tea (it's never good anyway). It helps to pick up a bottle or two of smart water in the airport before you fly since purified water keeps you less thirsty and more replenished. It may be expensive in the terminal but it's worth keeping your health (and beauty) on track.
    3. Reapply on the fly: when flying I try to keep my makeup to a minimum since it can cause excess drying. A girl of course wants to look presentable though so I'll often just put on a little shadow, my Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer (yay for more moisture!) and a little lip sheer. I then keep a travel size honest baby wipes in my carry on so when I land or when I get to the hotel (depending on how fast you have to get to and event), I can wipe of the minimal makeup, refresh my face, MOISTURIZE and put on my every day (or night) makeup.
What essential things do you do when you travel?
  • My Fav Healthier Beauty Buys Right Now

There is a lot of "better for you" beauty out there now which is a wonderful thing but it can be hard to decipher which products are worth using and what ones just don't hold up to their promise. Here are a few of my favorite products right now. Though they all may not be fully natural they all are free of many harmful ingredients and hold themselves up to higher standards then your everyday beauty products

    1. Sisely Paris Mascara: Thankfully Europe has higher standards for their beauty products so if you're looking for something effective yet less harmful it's wise to turn to products made there. I've been loving this Sisely Mascara that curls and lenthens your lashes and uses plant-based ingredients to achieve maximal results.

    2. Laura Mercier Silk Creme: Foundation. This is perhaps the trickiest healthy beauty buy. I've tried many a better-for-you brand but many just left me looking orangey or even worse - like I was wearing a ton of makeup. I'm always looking for something that's going to look camera ready but is also good for my skin and doesn't make me look like I have caked on makeup. I had recently fallen in love with Laura's tinted moisturizer so thought I'd give this photo-ready option a try. It feels so silky smooth on your skin, blends in perfectly and looks natural yet fierce. I go with the oil-free since my skin can get a bit oily plus it helps keep you dewey without being shiny. Laura's makeup is very allergy friendly so perfect for those with tempermental skin.

3,4 & 5. Beauty Counter Lip Sheer, Eye Duo and Concealer: Beauty Counter is committed to changing the Beauty standards in the U.S. and has been making a lot of headway. Any product you can buy from them is a step in the right direction. In fact, I also use the bronzer and blush duo as well. Though their Tint Skin didn't do it for me (see: orangey) I do know people who love it and swear by it for every day use. I have the lip sheer in several colors but my favorite for everyday is the Twig. The eye duo contains 2 complimentary shades (all over and crease) making this friendly for even a novice makeup wearer. I recommend picking up their brush set as well as it's one of the best I've ever used. The concealer is easy to use and blends in flawlessly.

6 & 7. Bobbi Brown eye liner & eye shadow: It's no secret that Bobbi Brown is one of the best in the business. Though Beauty Counter also makes great eyeliner, Bobbi's Long-Wear Eyeliner just has such a deep and rich color that lasts and looks so fierce you wonder why you'd use anything else (her gel-liner is also wonderful) I use her grey eye shadow in the outer corner of my eye, in combination with the Beauty Counter duo mentioned above, to create an every day smokey look. Having spent time with Bobbi, I know her commitment to finding the best ingredients for her products is high and that her goal is to always have the most nourishing yet effective line out there.

    8. Ilia Beauty Lip Gloss: Sasha Plavsic, creator of Ilia, was one of the first out there creating beauty products free of harmful ingredients. There are many things I love about her line (especially the mascara and lip crayons) but my absolute favorite is her lip gloss in Peek A Boo. The curved applicator is so soft and perfectly angled to sweep across your lips flawlessly. The Peek A Boo color is so neutral that it is the perfect comliment to almost any lip color and does wonders when paired with a smokey eye.

My list of products is always changing often playing with new and old favorites together. It was several months of play to find this combination so I did a lot of trial and error so you don't have to. I'll of course keep you updated with new products I find and love and please feel free to share with me some of the ones you can't live without in the comments below!

  • Homemade Energy Healing Body Scrub

I can be super sensitive to the energy around me and recently I was having one of those weeks where no matter what I did it just seemed like this energy that wasn't quite mine was latching on. I remembered some advice a healer had once given me about using salt as an effective way to slough off energy that was less than desirable. The lightbulb went off in my head and I rushed home to make my own special "energy healing" beauty scrub. The added bonus here is that it's also an exfoliant so your body is left feeling impossibly smooth and cared for. I had so much fun making this and believe it or not, felt a million times better after using it!! Here's what I created but feel free to play around with some ingredients that feel nice to you. The main ingredient of importance here is the salt which gives you the energy heal plus exfoliation:

    • 1/4 cup Himalayan sea salt
    • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
    • 1tsp raw honey
    • 1 tpsn tocotrienols (vitamin E powder)

Once I mixed this all together I said a little prayer while having my hand over it asking for Divine Goddess energy to be infused into it. You can say any little blessing you like even just saying "I infuse this scrub with Divine Light & Love." Or you can skip over that and just go ahead and use it!

    Enjoy!

  • How to create a Spa Day at home

I'm obsessed with self-care. It's one of the things we're all too often quick to forget and I know for myself that when I forget about it I certainly feel it. Just think about napping. Doesn't the very thought of it make you feel like you're "lazy" or "slacking off"? However, when you break it down napping is actually a great way to recharge your batteries. In fact many successful people insist on taking a 20 minute nap during their day or at least some time out for a meditation. Another self-care tactic we see as a luxury and not as a necessity are baths. Some of us probably haven't even taken one since we were a kid. A 20 min bath can help recharge you, give you clarity and relax that tired hamster brain of yours. Don't have a bathtub? Why not pamper yourself a little, whether by going to a spa or salon or just giving yourself an "at-home" spa day. Here are some things that I like to incorporate into my life at least once a week. Some you can do everyday or maybe you choose to do them all at once. Whatever your time line is try and find the time to take an hour or so out for you this week and give it a go.
I've recently fallen in love with Caudalie products. My nose was breaking out a bunch recently and nothing seemed to help. After using this as a mask and then as a spot treatment, after two days I could see my blackheads disappearing.Caudalie Purifying Mask

It's not a spa day if things don't smell amazing, is it? This aromatherapy diffuser is a gentle way to add aromatherapy to a room. Find a scent that relaxes and is pleasing to you and feel your room transform. I think every one is quick to pick up lavender, and lavender is great, but not all are created equal. Be sure to choose one that smells great to you or even try something different like peppermint for clarity or orange to enliven you! ZAQ Dew Multi Color Litemist Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser - 80 ML Capacity, White

If you're going to take a bath why not make it extra special! These Ahava dead sea salts help make the skin soft, slough off any icky energy (getting a little woo-woo on you here but just go with it;)) and transform your bath into a spa-like experience. They come in several scents including eculyptus and lavender if you want to add a little something-something. AHAVA Dead Sea Salt Mineral Bath Salt, Muscle Soothing Eucalyptus, 32 oz.

I LOVE tea. I have at least one a day and I find it to be the quick fix for instant relaxation. When embarking on your spa day you'll most certainly need a beverage(s).
If you're really feeling decadent, pour yourself a glass of wine or bubbles. Sarah Tracey, of thelushlifeny.com has some incredible picks if you're not sure where to start. Tea of course is an essential and though I've tried many brands, I always go back to Choice. It's high quality, not over priced and always a win. You can also add some fresh fruit to sparkling water if you want something different. Choice Organic Peppermint Herb Tea, 16 Count Box

Once the 30 min are done on this mask you'll see your face looking totally different. It's almost comical how lifted it looks while it's still on but once you take it off your skin will feel renewed, refreshed and look much more even toned. Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask

I definitely recommend using an oil before or after the shower/bath. This one from Tata is great to use after as it soaks in immediately. Apply to damp skin for an easier application. Tata Harper Revitalizing Body Oil

If you're looking for something a little (a lot actually) less expensive than Tata, check out the oils from Aura Cacia. This sesame one I'll put on pre-shower since it is definitely very oily but once it rinses off it'll leave your body feeling super soft. Aura Cacia Organic Skin Care Oil, Protecting Sesame, 4 Fluid Ounce

Body brushing is great for your circulation and just feels really nice. Try and do it several times a week before you shower. It's great to body brush then add an oil to soften your skin. TopNotch Body Brush, Dry Skin Brushing, Long Handle, Detachable Head, Luxury Natural Bristles

At a spa day you don't want to neglect your feet! Keep them nice and soft by rubbing them with a Pumice Stones and following up with a foot cream. This one from Caudalie absorbs right into your skin and leaves you subtly soft! - Caudalie Foot Beauty Cream

Whatever your ritual, be sure to take time out to give yourself some extra love. Creating a self-care routine that is pleasing to you will help transform your mood, productivity and overall well-being.

What do you do to show you that you care?

  • The French Beauty Solution

In this book, Mathilde Thomas, founder of Caudalie spa, helps change the way we view beauty. Beauty should be a source of pleasure not of pain, according to Mathilde.
